GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE FACULTY

Biology and Geography Faculty of the University – the largest in the region, teaching and research staff, which brings together experts in various fields of biology, geography, ecology, medicine, agricultural sciences. The mission of the Faculty: to give a high quality education in the biological, geographical and environmental sciences for undergraduate and graduate students through the application of innovative technologies, while maintaining the values ​​of classical learning and prepare a new generation of professionals who can take responsibility for the future of the region. Total number of employees – 60 people, including 3 professors and doctors, 33 professors and PhDs.At faculty winners of the “Best University Teacher of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, the holders of government scholarships for talented young scientists of the Ministry of Education and Science, and others. On the four departments of the Faculty (zoology, geography, botany, physiology) has about 700 students and undergraduates, from the walls of the faculty annually produces about 200 specialists. The Faculty has 5 research laboratories associated in Biotechnology Research Park and environmental monitoring, 17 specialized laboratories and classrooms, computer labs connected to wired and wireless Internet, auditorium with interactive multimedia equipment, training field base in Karkaralinsk state national natural parks, nature museum , herbarium.

Library fund faculty has more than 86 thousand copies of educational and scientific literature, scientific and popular periodicals. Faculty annually produces 4 issue of the journal “Bulletin of Karaganda State University. Series: biology, geography, medicine “included in the list of journals recommended KKSON the MES for the publication of scientific articles.

Collective achievements of the Faculty of the University awarded diplomas to them. EA Buketova 1, 2, 3 in the nomination “For the best organization of the educational process”, 3 in the nomination “For the best organization of the educational process”, Grand Prix, 2, 3 extent of the victory in the contest “Dedication to Students”. Faculty students won at the Republican student competitions: in geography, biology, ecology, biotechnology.

Faculty successfully passed national accreditation (2009) quality management system certification standard ISO 9001: 2000, conducted by the Swiss Agency for SGS. During the period from 2004 to 2011. 18 faculty members defended their dissertations, 7 employees received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science “Best University Teacher”. Faculty have received grants to the MES and the European Community (TEMPUS) worth over 20 mln. Tenge. HISTORY BIOLOGY AND GEOGRAPHY FACULTY

Faculty of Biology is one of the oldest in the Buketov Karaganda State University, was organized in 1972 at the Faculty of Natural Science Pedagogical Institute, whose history begins in 1952.

The first dean of the faculty has been appointed a young scientist, candidate of chemical science R.G. Omarova. Originally at the faculty operated only Chair of “Biology and Chemistry”, initially led by teacher Z.B. Kaskabaeva, then R.G. Omarova. The complement of this department had only 4 teachers.

In the experimental field, 4 hectares, organized special botanical sections: an arboretum, nursery collection, department of floriculture, greenhouse, where they grow plants of different climatic zones of the country, including the subtropics. In 1960, the department of “Biology and Chemistry” was divided into two independent departments “Chemistry” and “Zoology”, Head of the Department of Zoology became candidate of biological sciences N.B. Shlikov (1960-1967). From this year on the faculty was organized training in two areas: “Biology and Chemistry” and “Biology and the basis of agricultural production”, the last line lasted until 1967. In 1961 was organized by the Department of “Agriculture”, which in 1970 was renamed as the Department of “Darwinism and genetics”, she was in charge of associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, B.N. Mukhachov.

In 1965, the Department of “Zoology” was divided into two departments: “Zoology” and “Animal and Human Physiology.” For many years (from 1965 to 1981) was in charge of the Department of Zoology associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, T.I. Aubakirov.

The Department of Human and Animal Physiology was headed by professor, MD P.S. Kravitskaya (1965-198). Professor P.S. Kravitskaya was both dean of faculty (1963-1973), Replacing B.N. Mukhachev, worked in this position from 1961 to 1963. As a dean, Paulina Semenovna paid great attention to scientific and methodological issues, improving the educational process, professional orientation training. Since 1969, the department “Animal and Human Physiology” organized postgraduate study, led by P.S. Kravitskoy prepared dissertations eleven graduate students, job seekers, who are now successfully working in universities.

In 1972, on the basis of the Pedagogical Institute was organized in Karaganda State University and the Faculty of Natural Science provided the basis for the organization of Biological And Chemical Faculties.

After organizing the Karaganda State University first dean of biological faculty were candidate of biological sciences, associate professors, R.A. Toktamysova (1973-1976), and I.M. Anapiev (1976-1980).

Already at that time on the faculty was of the four departments: “Zoology” (head of the department associate professor, candidate of biological sciences Aubakirov TI), “Botanica” (associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, R.K. Moiseev), “Animal and Human Physiology” (associate professor, candidate of biological sciences Kulzhanova K.I.) and “Biochemistry and Physiology of Plants” (associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, Baishev K.S.)

In 1973, at the Department of “Zoology” postgraduate study was opened, led by associate professor, candidate of biological sciences T.I. Aubakirov, defended their dissertations Z.B. Bekishbekov, K.B. Bekishev, V.G. Nikolaeva.

In 1974 was opened the evening department of the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry (Dean: B.V. Vaholsky, K.I. Kulzhanova, K.B. Bekishev, S.V. Novik, O.A. Abdrahmanov).

In 1975, at the urging of Rector YevneyArstanovichBuketov, associate professor N.G. Skopin doctorate in Leningrad and in a short time – within three months – has received approval HAC of USSR.

In 1976, at the Department of Zoology at the initiative and active organizational work of T.I. Aubakirov was established zoological museum. During the one year, a collection fund of the museum has collected more than 400 exhibits.


In 1980, associate professor OA Abdrahmanov was transferred to the preparatory department dean at the Faculty of Biology. During the seven years of its faculty in this post has had some success in all spheres of life. Strengthen the material base of the faculty. Particular attention was paid to scientific and pedagogical development of young professionals. Among perfectly successful students at the faculty was abandoned graduates H. Isenov, S. Florova, L. Kutovtseva, L. Faustov, V. Gorlov, G. Ilnitskaya E. Bekishbekov, M. Buketov, N. Erzhanov, A. Alimkhanov and others who have made the backbone of the Problem Research Laboratory. This laboratory was established in 1988, Sc.D., by Professor A.B. Bigaliev. In the future on the basis of this laboratory is open to Central Kazakhstan branch of the World Environmental Research Laboratory (led by senior researcher I.M. Pudov).

Due to the accumulated scientific and educational authority, the faculty hosts major national and national events. So 1-2 July 1981 held a visiting session of the Academic Council of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, under the leadership of Vice-President, Academician E.V. Gvozdev; 16-18 August 1988 at the faculty conducted VI All-Union Conference on ” Demoiselle Crane of Kazakhstan and Central Asia”.

After the events of December 1986 dean of the faculty became associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, V.F. Solomina (1987-1988). In 1988, the evening department reorganized in the correspondence department (dean, associate professor O.A. Abdrahmanov). From 1989 to 1992 he was dean of the faculty Associate Professor, candidate of biological sciences Zh.Zh.  Zhumazhanov.

In the eighties, it was a tradition to hold on the faculty student scientific conferences in a foreign language. Students of the faculty during the academic and industrial practice delivered lectures, talks on the theme of nature protection, introduced populations with topical issues of modern biology. During teaching practice in schools conducted the “Week of biology,” the evening and the conversation “Know and protect the nature of his native land,” “Love and protect your land”, “Useful Plant Resources of Kazakhstan”, “Insects in the battle for the harvest” and others. Students biological faculty four times were the winners in the national rounds of the All-Union Olympiad “Student and scientific and technical progress”, which took place, including on the basis of the faculty. Students E. Mokhova (1979), H. Isenov (1980), N. Tatarinova (1981) became students of the final round of the All-Union Olympiad. Students E. A. Kapanov, Boryaeva, V. Thevs awarded diplomas at the competition in the social sciences.

In 1990, at the faculty started training students in two specialties – “Psychology” and “Geography” – and to the four available on the faculty department joined by two – “Psychology” – the department in charge of B.A. Amirov, then associate professor S.M. Dzhakupov and “Geography”, the department and currently manages the candidate of geographical sciences, professor M.K. Kozhakhmet.

In 1990, with the September 5-8 at the faculty holds a meeting section of the State Science and Technology Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers, on the issue of “Man and Biosphere” on “Ecological and genetic monitoring and the environment.”

In 1992 associate professor, candidate of agricultural sciences T.K. Shaushekov was appointed as dean of the faculty. During his work in the South-East region of Karaganda was organized in 1993, the Botanical Gardens, whose director is appointed O.A. Abdrakhmanov.

Between 1987 and 1991, the rector of Karaganda State University was doctor of biological sciences, professor A.B. Bigaliyev, thanks to his active support of the April 10, 1992 commissioned a new building biological faculty, the total area of ​​5982 square meters, the initial project cost of the building was about 3 million rubles. In the new building were actively involved both teachers and students of the faculty.

From late 1994 to 1998, was Dean of the Faculty Associate Professor, candidate of biological sciences, N.T. Erzhanov. In the years N.T. Yerzhanov was organized to prepare students majoring “Farming”. The first set was done in the 1996-96 school year, and the first edition was done in 2000.

From 1998 to 2002 he was dean of associate professor, candidate of biological sciences K.B. Bekishev, these years on the faculty began preparing undergraduates in biology and ecology.

In the period from 2002 to 2004, led the faculty doctor of biological sciences, professor M.R. Khanturin. During his tenure at the faculty was organized research laboratory “Physiology adaptation” scientific program which was funded by grants for basic research of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the basis of the laboratory were prepared 3 candidate theses. Since 2004 and currently heads the graduate faculty candidate of biological sciences A.M. Aitkulov.

In the 2000s, at the faculty of intensified work of research laboratories, based on which, only in the period from 2004 to 2007 was prepared by 13 candidate theses, total funding of research projects of faculty from the national funds has reached 6 million tenge per year. The result of the research work was the organization and carrying out of 5 international scientific-practical conference “Actual problems of ecology” (2002-2013), the international scientific-practical conference “Actual problems of adaptation and Sanacreatology systems of various ranks: biology, physiology, biotechnology” (2007), a series of conferences of national and regional level. Acquired scientific and educational equipment worth more than 3 million KZT. Established active research links with foreign universities and research organizations: the Moscow State University, Tyumen State University, with the Department of Botany of the University of Navarre (Spain), the International Centre for Maize and Wheat Improvement «CIMMYT» (Mexico, the United Nations), the Institute of Diabetes «Gerhardt Katsch» (Germany) and others. The newly organized Kazakh Geographic Society (Chairman Candidate geographical sciences Akpambetova KM). It has become a tradition to hold an annual competition among students of the Karaganda area of biology and geography.

Biology and Geography Faculty of one of the largest in Central Kazakhstan region teams, who started their educational and research activities in the first half of the 20th century. Concentration on the faculty of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff, able to solve fundamental and applied problems in various branches of biology, ecology, geography, agriculture, the availability of laboratory and facilities allowed to take its rightful place among the faculty research and educational centers of the country.

The aim is to estimate and forecast the state of health and functional reserves of the students from the industrial regions with poor environmental conditions in the conditions of modern stress effects and implementation of correctional technology enhance adaptive capacity by using COLD-hypoxic-hypercapnic exposure.

Methodological approaches and introduced a patented method of healing the body of students from non-disadvantaged industrial regions using COLD-hypoxic-hypercapnic exposure. Scientific research topics: “Activation evolutionary – deterministic adaptive mechanisms as a way to improve human health at different ages.”

Research carried out in the framework of a joint project with the Laboratory of structural and functional adaptations of the Department of General Physiology, Biology and Soil Sciences, Research Institute of Physiology. Ukhtomskii Saint Petersburg State University (Russia) and the National Centre of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases (Kazakhstan) since 2007.

Activities started in center in the University in 1977. The direction of research: the study of the mechanisms of development and the prevention of diabetes, causes chemical complexing compounds, including in the human body metabolic disorders.

The center conducts joint research with the laboratory of experimental diabetes Astana Medical University (Astana), Department of Physiology, Karaganda State Medical University (Karaganda). Work is conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Diabetes “Gerhardt Kutch” (St. Karlsburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany) based on the agreement on scientific cooperation, concluded in 1991 and 2012.

The studies disclosed diabetogenic action mechanisms complexing compounds – derivatives of 8-hydroxyquinoline, including those produced in humans and animals.

Targets for future research: the study of the possibility of preventing the development of diabetes caused by diabetogenic chemical substances produced in the human body for violations of exchange amino acid tryptophan.

A comprehensive study of the impact on the environment makes it possible to evaluate the existing condition monitoring facilities and to develop predictive measures to reduce the impact of these productions.

Using the developed screening methods allows a comprehensive ecological and hygienic assessment of the strength of medical and environmental conditions on the investigated regions of Kazakhstan, to identify risk factors, priority toxicants technogenic origin, prepare a forecast distribution of chemical compounds in different environments, identify objects and mechanisms of action, which are the most dangerous humans. Research is an important component of the forecast environmental-dependent and environmental-related diseases at population studies, as well as the basis for the development of management, sanitation, environmental events.

These studies are conducted in collaboration with the National Centre of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases (Kazakhstan), the Institute for Complex Problems of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases (Russia) Ltd, “Industrial Safety and Auditing” (Kazakhstan).

In the area developed methodological approaches that are based on the provision of indicators and criteria for assessing the quality of environmental media (air, soil, water), standardized forms for collecting, testing results and creation on this basis of information-analytical database with the development of computer programs. The research results are patented in 6 evidence of intellectual property.

The study of molecular and genetic mechanisms of development of various forms of leukemia, the definition of genetically modified organisms in food

The purpose of research conduct cytogenetic and molecular genetic analysis of chromosomal rearrangements that determine the development of various forms of leukemia, determine the fine structure of “chimeric” genes are the cause of hematologic diseases; a comparative analysis of the sensitivity and specificity of species polymerase chain reaction for the detection of nucleic acids of infectious agents; to study genetically modified oragnizma in foods.

Research group conducted a study to identify the genetically modified organisms in various foods. Modified nucleic acid extraction methods of research subjects. To practice setting the amplification reaction with the test systems “Planta-SCREEN”, “Terminator Nos”, “GM soy-40-3-2.”

Studied genetically modified ingredients in meat products, fruit juices, chocolate, dairy products. Identified genomic loci of soybean and corn in a large amount of meat.

Conducted a study on the translocations that cause various forms of leukemia among the population of Karaganda region. Revealed the highest prevalence of the Philadelphia chromosome, and the chimeric gene BCR-ABL, formed as a result of this restructuring. Also detected a translocation t (4; 11).Cytogenetic analysis to identify chromosomal abnormalities with karyotyping. Studies have identified one type of translocation t (9; 22) in the preparations of peripheral blood of patients with various forms of leukemia.

Currently conducted studies to determine the genotypes of human papillomavirus high carcinogenic risk, determined genetically modified organisms in baby foods.
